Thanks to Charlotte

On Sunday the 6th May 2007 Kings Lynn streets came to a stand-still for a few hours during the morning whilst the Annual 10km Great East Anglian Run took place. With the weather being slightly overcast, ideal for runners, the masses moved into Kings Lynn to cheer and support the 1800 or so runners taking part in this annual event. For one such entrant, 16 year old Charlotte Clarke (Student from KES School) this was her first run and she had decided to use it to raise funds for Marham First Response Team.
For Charlotte, she had a special reason for raising funds for Marham First Response as several years previous her younger sister Jessica fell ill at home, a '999' call was made and the team from Marham were dispatched by ambulance control to attend. In arriving several minutes before an ambulance arrived they were able to obtain a history of what had happened, obtained a full set of ob's and more importantly calm and reassure Jessica and her family.
Charlottes effort is all the more remarkable as she does carry and in emergencies have to use an Inhaler, she also suffers from heart palpitations and under the advice from the hospital she also has to watch her blood sugars. Despite this Charlottes determination saw her run the 10km in a time of 50 minutes and in the process raising in excess of £400:00.
Marham First Response would like to collectively thank Charlotte & her family for the support in this remarkable fund-raising effort. The funds will go to replace vital life saving equipment that the team carry whilst voluntarily operating in and around the county of West Norfolk.

Honington Thrift Shop Contributes Again

Latest fundraising (Feb 07)

Early 2007 has seen an outstanding start to the fundraising efforts of the scheme in the East of England, supporters have provided us with a total of £4357.98.  This has been the result of some hard work by the fundraising representatives over the last few months organising events throughout East Anglia or even Iraq.

On Thursday 22 Feb 07 members of the the Honington team went to the Tesco supermarket in Bury St Edmunds and successfully raised £631 whilst also publicising the charity to the local community.  As well as the generous donation from the Round Table detailed below, the Honington Track day in Sep 2006 has finally netted a donation of £1846.53.  Naomi Smith, a Honington Responder recently returned from operational duty in Iraq, used a Karaoke Event in theatre to raise a total of 224.54, apparently bullying personnel to sing.  Finally, since the new year £250 was received from Myers Communications as a result of some charity advertising on a Motorcycle Forum Website by one of the Honington team.

Marham have recently completed a fundraising event at Roy's of Dereham to also publicise the Charity in Norfolk.  This helped to raise a total of £877.12 along with some charity boxes strategically located around the local area.

We are continually astonished by the level of support that we receive from the local communities of Suffolk and Norfolk.

Every year the Round Table of Bury St Edmunds organises the spectacular fireworks display held in the Abbey Gardens.  The work of this dedicated team provides the local people with a magnificent display in the splendid location of the Cathedral and it's gardens, whilst also raising funds for the local community causes and charities.

Mayor of Kings Lynn

RAF Marham's First Response team has been presented with a new First Response vehicle by West Norfolk Mayor Councillor Trevor Manley. Mr Manley chose the team as his official charity during his mayoral year, which ends next month. So far, nearly £20,000 has been raised towards buying and equipping the vehicle. Councillor Manley hopes this year's Mayor's Ball, on Friday 5 May 2006 will boost the total by another £2,000.

About £16,500 has been used to purchase a Honda CRV Sport through the East Anglian Ambulance Trust. Councillor Manley said the same type of vehicle was used by the Trust's paramedics.

The balance of the money raised will be spent on converting the car and fitting extras including flashing blue lights, specialist medical equipment and satellite navigation.

Councillor Manley said funds had been raised in a variety of ways, including a craft fair, race night and fashion show. A Gilbert and Sullivan evening was organised in Hunstanton and the Downham Swing Orchestra, led by Cy Payne, held a concert.

Adrian Flux Insurance supported the appeal through a "cash for quotes" scheme which raised nearly £1,500. Each insurance quote requested using a dedicated line earned £5 for the charity.

A Nelson Country sponsored walk by Lynn Ramblers' Association was supported by about 75 people. The walk was organised by Mr Allan Jones and raised more than £4,000.

Councillor Manley said: "I would like to thank my fundraising committee for all their hard work and the people of West Norfolk for being so generous."
