The team uses the Laerdal V-VAC suction unit for clearing the airway. It is a simple but efficient item of equipment which works the instant pressure is applied to the grip and is adjustable for high and low pressure suctioning.

The soft tip of the intake valve has deep cut-outs to prevent blockage and soft tissue injury when the tip is held against the back of the throat. It also has an internal valve that resists any back flow of suctioned matter.

It features a disposable one-piece cartridge which provides a new, clean pump, valve, and suction tube, whilst the reusable handle can be immersed for cleaning after use. Additional cartridges are kept in the bag along with the suction unit.
